Hand embroidery and hand-painted linen were extracted from their original base and collaged with machine stitching onto the reverse of vintage upholstery textile. Much more hand stitching and layering were applied to illustrate and secure the collage. 

This artwork was born from a moment of beauty and reflection captured at the edge of a Lily Pond. Reflections on the water capture the clouds above and the sunlight, allowing glimpses into the depths of the pond life below; they live in both worlds, the air and the water, balancing themselves as the pond levels rise and fall, pushing through fallen leaves and robust grasses, finding the dappled shade and making a pitch towards the sunlight to bloom. Floating seemingly effortlessly while contending with a changing environment. A moment of peace and tranquillity that felt reminiscent of another time, just like the base textile suggests. The cut and reformed blooms offer a futuristic sense of adaptation, a new interpretation of their form, still beautiful. Ecology, evolution, diversity and inclusion in the form of a moment of beauty and reflection captured at the edge of a Lily Pond. While the Lilies simply float.
