THE UNTAMED THREAD FLORALS 5 DAY CREATIVE RETREAT

TIME: 10.00am - 4.00pm daily

COST: $2500.00 pp includes 5 days tuition, daily chef catered lunch and generous materials.

The balance of the workshop will be charged in 2x $1000.00 invoices or you are welcome to pay the balance in full. 

This is an exclusive retreat experience for creatives who want to explore all things stitched florals in depth.

Inspired by my origins in the region and my book The Untamed Thread, this retreat offers a special opportunity to dive into your intrinsic love of blooms and build your own stitched florals from design up to intricately, expressively and divinely stitched flowers.

For 5 days we will be embraced by the beautiful, tranquil setting of Millbrook Resort (very close to where I grew up in Arrowtown, near Queenstown, NZ) in the beautiful Waterfall Cottage private venue. Lunches will be catered by the onsite chefs to suit your requirements.

Each day we will step through my unique approach to researching, designing and stitching floral artworks. There will be freedom to explore your favourite blooms via abundant supplies and plenty of one on one and group sessions developing your embroidery to allow you to bring the essence of your favourite florals to life with thread.

During our time together we will practice shading petals, understanding how to express your favourite blooms unique characters through a variety of threads and beading. We’ll spend time creating centres, outlines and borders, composition and colour palettes.

As always with my workshops I will share my knowledge and supplies generously.

All materials are supplied.

I will be inviting you to select a colour palette, including hand dyed wools and threads as well as hand painted linen textiles to work with prior so that you can work with colours you truly adore and we will also email each other to develop some bloom selections so that we have plenty of resources and opportunity to optimise our time together.

Because stitch is slow and we will be looking at a variety of techniques you may end up with multiple ongoing smaller projects or one intricately finished bloom at the end of the 5 days depending on your personal creative goals. 

This workshop suits folks who have stitched before through to experienced stitchers. Although normally my workshops are designed to suit any ability this particular workshop wouldn’t suit a complete beginner.

My teaching style is informal and kind, thorough and generous, I aim to meet each individual where you are at in your creative evolution and support you with plenty of resources and gentle experienced guidance.

Our group is capped at 12 people (smaller than my usual group size) to ensure that we have plenty of one on one time to work together and room for us to spread out and create freely.

There will be optional activities offered such as a group river walk, a dinner or evening drinks that are outside of class time and are pay as you go. More information on the schedule will be supplied prior to us gathering.

Please ensure you have your own travel insurance arranged as I am unable to refund you should your travel plans change, especially at the last minute.

If something happens and you can no longer make it, I will try my best to fill your spot from the waitlist. If that is not possible, I won’t be able to refund the balance of the workshop.
